One of the challenges of fitting into a new job is gauging how to deal with the boss. Bosses come in many guises and each one will have their own quirks and trigger points. If you can get a handle on how your boss ticks you can make your life much easier.
One particular boss ‘type’ is the participatory leader. This type of boss is a great communicator and do not feel the need to monitor their employees or keep an eye on them all the time. They provide their staff with plenty of feedback and are keen to recognize people for their achievements. They make sure employees are involved in the appraisal process and they will be inspirational and innovative leaders. They will involve staff in regular meetings individually.
To manage this type of boss you need to adopt the same techniques he or she uses and feedback regularly. Always keep them posted on progress via email communication and make an effort to talk to them face-to-face regularly. Talk about results as your boss will be interested in your opinions.
To keep the boss happy make sure you learn what your boss values and expects from you. Try to solve problems before running to the boss and keep focused on achieving high results. Good time keeping is a must so be at the serviced office promptly.
