Virtual Practices Good for Business

Offering flexible work practices such as working from home and virtual office is deemed to be a good idea for the business.  Industry surveys have highlighted that staff work more productively when they work from home:

The Chartered Management Institute’s Jo Causons commented:

‘Offering benefits such as flexible working and remote working helps motivate and retain skilled employees without expecting their employees to be tied to their office chairs and giving them a way to better manage their own work and home-life commitments, which should ultimately lead to a more productive workforce.’

However there are reservations from some managers.  Causons went on to say:

“If it is to be successful, it is essential managers hold regular meetings in an official meeting room at an office desk within the main office, face to face with their remote workers to keep them informed on company information so that they are not disadvantaged by the perceived lack of contact.”

If the idea of implementing virtual work practices across the business seems a daunting task rest assured that technologies and software packages abound with ways to make the virtual and home based business a reality.

The director of Microsoft, Cynthia Crossley said:

‘There are three basic things people will always want to do: stay in touch with each other, get more done and have more fun. Technology keeps making these things easier, to the point where it becomes seamless to an individual.’
