New technologies that allow us to work on the move or remotely from the office using virtual office set ups can often get bad press for creating a 24/7 working culture in the UK. However these technologies offer benefits not only for the businesses but the employees themselves.
From a business point of view remote working can increase the volume and quality of work with productivity levels far outstripping those working within more traditional work practice frameworks. Laptops have enabled employees to access email anywhere at anytime be that on the train commuting to a meeting or when hot desking on their travels.
A survey carried out last year on behalf of Vodafone revealed that most employees believe that their work performance is significantly enhanced when they work away from the office. It was also found by around 59% of employers that their staff became more creative when not tied to one desk.
Working parents have definitely grasped the benefits of this mobile technology which allows more families to juggle the demands of both work and family and to balance the two much more successfully. T-Mobile released results of their survey last year that revealed 50% of mothers found it difficult to balance work and family. The call for mobile and virtual working policies to be introduced to business is loud and clear assisting parents to better manage time and also save significantly on childcare costs.
