Telephone and email are highly common ways of communicating now, used every minute of every day, but video conferencing is still something that many businesses do not have simple access to – beyond the webcam of course.

Video conferencing uses video and audio to allow multiple people in different places to talk together and hold a meeting, almost as though they were together face to face. Video conferencing is referred to as point to point (two sets of people in private offices) or multi point (two or more people in large meeting rooms on different sites). Virtual meetings cut costs

The fourth national UK Work from Home Day was held on 15th May and according to Work Wise UK, the company that coordinates the day’s activities and promotions, around 10 per cent of all UK firms were expected to participate.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, said:

“In these straitened times, holding virtual meetings represents a great opportunity to cut costs and boost productivity. If every business aimed for just 10 additional virtual meetings a year, they could save a staggering £14bn collectively.  There are also the economic benefits of reduced congestion, while cuts in emissions would amount to a massive saving of 1.7m tonnes of carbon dioxide from the 4.7m small businesses in the UK alone.”

Reputable companies offering serviced offices and virtual offices all over the UK have seen a vast increase in the number of enquiries over the last twelve months as firms have been forced to look at cutting costs and reducing their overheads thanks to the aftermath of the credit crunch.
