The respected Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has recently published a very worrying document. The document predicts that the world is facing a larger number of extreme weather events due to manmade climate change. Floods, heat waves and droughts will become more common occurrences according to their forecast. The scientists maintain that there will be additional loss of life and capital as a consequence. Climate change will damage the oceans
Scientists frequently discuss the impact of manmade climate change. They typically concentrate on the fate of animals and the destiny of land-based ecosystems. However, new research has highlighted how the oceans will be adversely affected. Work is being done by part of the Stockholm Environment Institute and it attempts to put an economic value on the impending environmental disaster. (more…)
The world in 2050
A book has been published called ‘Megachange: The World in 2050’. Edited by Daniel Franklin and John Andrews, the various contributors extrapolate on existing trends to come up with visions of the future. While the introduction admits that making predictions is fraught with difficulty, the authors have not permitted this common sense to derail their project. (more…)
The Carbon Trust shows the way to go
There are still some businesspeople who view environmentalism with a degree of suspicion. The impression that being green is contrary to business interests arose largely because of occasions of extreme behaviour by activists in the past. However, it is increasingly apparent that companies can do well if they (more…)
What’s new about current climate change?
Some sceptics about man-made climate change are not driven by ideology or influenced by vested interests. They simply want to know if what is currently happening is different from the climate change which has affected our planet in the past. They are right to point out that the climate can be affected by a diversity of things. Nor can it be said that their curiosity is necessarily illegitimate. (more…)
European disunity over carbon emissions
The economic crisis has had an increasing impact on the way in which European governments are looking at targets for carbon emission reduction. The member states are under pressure to prioritise economic growth and this is leading to debates becoming more acrimonious. Countries have their own distinctive sources of energy and are finding it difficult to make compromises. (more…)
Canada feels the heat
Climate change sceptics are swift to seize on data that seems inconsistent with the global warming thesis. They typically ignore facts which do not suit them or provide unconvincing explanations for the phenomena in question. In contrast, responsible scientists look at information that conforms to the notion that manmade global warming is occurring, as well as heeding information which fits less easily with the major trend. Nonetheless, the individuals who are employed by online organisations need somewhere suitable to work. A range of options are available. It is critical that new outfits are prudent in relation to their resources when selecting appropriate office accommodation. (more…)
Helping businesses cope with suburban sprawl
Suburban sprawl can be problematic for companies in a diversity of ways. However, many businesses face the same difficulty in relation to extensive suburbs. If they have an office in the middle of the city then their employees can arrive to work tired or late. In addition, pay may have to reflect commuting costs if good candidates are to be attracted to work for the firm. (more…)
Your home may be where you are happy
The environment has a powerful influence on our mood. When we are working, being comfortable can make a big difference to our productivity. Much conventional office space does not suit the individual tastes of employees. Attempts to personalise office space in a conventional head office can prioritise the comforts of management. Workers may do a better job if they can control their own space. (more…)
