Step 3 – Advertise the role

Once you have drafted a thorough job description for the role being recruited for, you need to advertise the job opportunity. Think carefully about how you can best target the sort of person you want to apply for the role, for instance in trade magazines, local papers, and online. By carefully planning where you advertise the role you increase the likelihood of getting relevant applications from good candidates.

Online recruitment is a cost-effective method for many small businesses, as increasing numbers of candidates look and apply for jobs online. As well as using job-board websites, you could also create a recruitment section on your website or set up a dedicated microsite where people can find out information on the role and send in their CVs for consideration.

In all advertising, you must be clear to candidates what is required of them, what the deadline for application is and what the timing of the recruitment process will be.

Step 4 - Sift the applications
